The Washington Post puts a spotlight today on students applying to George mason University. This is the second year that GMU has allowed students to submit videos with their application.
And no, it’s not just for the kids going into performing arts. There will be those who complain that the push to video will mean more discrimination against those who don’t look good and speak well.
AT&T Puts Out New Anti-Texting and Driving Video

Hats off to AT&T for putting a spotlight on a growing menace and disgrace. I am constantly amazed at people I know who are rational in every other aspect of their lives, and who would never drive drunk, yet seem to think they can text and drive. It’s INSANE. Texting while driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving. I’m all in favor of communication, but give it a rest while you are driving.

Politico lists the top political YouTube moments of 2010. Take a look. My favorite was #4, the Phil Davison video, a speech that is so phenomenally awful that it is a masterpiece that I believe will be studied and mocked for decades to come. Watch it again above.
Did Rex Ryan And His Wife Co-Star In A Foot Fetish Video? PLUS…Most. Uncomfortable. Press. Conference. Ever. (Video)

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan did himself a disservice during his press conference yesterday by sticking to the same prepared reply to every reporters question of “It’s a personal matter.” Ryan did not exactly put his foot in his mouth with any outward denials but he did seem rather uncomfortable, tease and spoke in a soft voice which a huge departure from the blustery presence he usual has at press conferences.
By sticking with “a personal matter” and not elaborating Ryan left the door wide open for what can be perceived as an admission that it was indeed him and his wife in the videos. The one bright spot in the press conference was when he did indeed open up about his wife and talk about how they have been married for 23 years and how she is a wonderful woman. A stronger tone came to his voice and it was the one time during the press conference that he did seem totally out of his element.

The Times points out that no one ever talks about Serial web TV, but then goes on to give a great review of a lot of them. You may learn of a few gems here. I for one didn’t know that Meryl Streep appears every so often in Lisa Kudrow’s web series.

Using Video to Introduce a Public Speaker
Posted by TJ Walker in Audio/Video Technology, CEOs/Financial, Humor, Keynote Speaking, Public Speaking Skills on January 9, 2008
Here is a great video used to introduce bill Gates before his last keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show. The video is funny and well done. But I feel it should come with a warning: Don’t try this at home kids! Why? Because it is extraordinarily time-consuming and expensive to put together a video like this. My advice? Most speakers are better off coming up with an interesting speech rather than getting lost in the details of editing a video. So if you have the resources of Microsoft behind you and you are good friends with international celebrities like Gates, then go for the fancy videos. If not, think twice before going to these lengths.
