Sarah Palin co-stars with Kate Gosselin last night on TLC

Palin veers closer and closer to the land of tabloid pop culture. It begs the question, what would Palin have to do in order for her supporters to judge that she passed the line and is no longer a viable political figure? Doing a reality show didn’t hurt her. Doing a reality show with Kate Gosselin hasn’t seemed to hurt. What about a show with Playboy’s Kendra? or Flavor Flav? What if Palin posed nude for Playboy? I’m beginning to think her supporters would explain it away by claiming the photos were “tasteful” so the “lamesteam media” shouldn’t make a big deal over it.
Time Magazine Exclusive interview with Sarah Palin…or was it?
Posted by TJ Walker in celebrities, Government & Politics, Media, News on December 11, 2010

Time has a cover story on Sarah Palin, which normally implies hours and hours together in person with a subject. Or at least a few hours by phone. It turns out, this whole interview was done by email between a time reporter and Palin, or at least the reporter thinks it might have been Palin, but then it could have been Willow or Trig. I pity the poor news weekly trying to remain relevant in today’s 24/7 digital environment. Now candidates aren’t even willing to return their phone calls. With US News and Newsweek getting sucked up into a black hole (definitely not black ink!) can Time be far behind?

Tea Party starting campaign to install Sarah Palin as head of RNC
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Government & Politics, media relations, Media Training, Presentation Skills Training, public relations on December 6, 2010
I hate to break it to the geniuses at the Tea party, but Sarah Palin already is the de facto head of the Republican Party. She gets more airtime than anyone else and is therefore, essentially, the lead spokesperson for the party and for conservatism in America. Naming her actual head of the party would just be superfluous. More at Mediaite.
Mike Huckabee to the entire political world: “I’m still here, even though my name isn’t Palin!”

The profile of Mike Huckabee in Politico today suggest there’s a chance he might not run for President because he’s making too much money and enjoying life now. I can’t imagine this being a deterrent for him. If he runs and loses, he can make even more money. And if he runs and wins, he will be able to make 9-figure wealth the way bill Clinton did in a few years after his time in the White House.
Why Sarah Palin is the 2010 Greatest Celebrity in the World
Posted by TJ Walker in celebrities, Media Training, public relations, reputation management on December 4, 2010
If Sarah Palin were the 1970s she would be a mood ring, a pet rock, Farah Fawcett and a Disco Ball all rolled into one. Honest people can debate about whether Palin can or should be the next GOP Presidential nominee or even President. But the debate is pretty much over on whether she is the biggest celebrity out there, in terms of the utter fascination people have with every facet of her life. Palin is a younger Liz Taylor without the movie credits; someone whose every move, thought and action is BIG NEWS obsessed by millions. For more information, check EVERY SINGLE NEWS AND GOSSIP SITE .
Will Todd Palin be the next contestant for Dancing with the Stars?
Posted by TJ Walker in celebrities, Communications, Media, media relations, public relations, reputation management on December 4, 2010
He’s reportedly under consideration. If you are a producer of the show, why not? Bristol was ratings gold; why not mine for more? If you are Todd Palin, it would be indoor work that isn’t cold or dirty. Seems like a step up from the oil rigs. And the pay is better too. And from Sarah’s perspective, it’s a chance to let her supporters be able to cast another vote for her, and without her having to look “un-presidential.” More at The Today Show.
Is Sarah Palin the New Ronald Reagan? – Media Training

Sarah Palin is under attack again, this time with comments declaring she is no leader and certainly not Ronald Reagan.
GOP Insider backlash continues against Sarah Palin

Now Ed Rollins has ripped Sarah Palin a new one. Rollins was Reagan’s campaign manager and he isn’t taking too kindly to Palin’s comparisons of herself to the Gipper. Does this hurt Palin among GOP faithful? No; it actually helps her solidity her base with the Tea Party and other outsiders. Rollins is a Washington Insider who’s been around forever. Worse, he’s a CNN commentator, in other words, he consorts with the enemies in the eye of conservative Republicans. More from Rollins at Mediaite.
Sarah Palin’s ratings up 17% in third week
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, celebrities, CEOs/Financial, Crisis Communications, Government & Politics on December 1, 2010

This shows Palin was not just a flash in the pan. People all across the spectrum are truly fascinated by Palin, whether it is by extreme love or contempt, and they are watching her. Much has been made over the fact that Palin’s numbers dropped from her initial 5 million viewers. Still, 3.5 million is a HUGE audience for cable. More at Hollywood Reporter.
Mike Huckabee finally finds way to get in media headlines without standing next to Sarah Palin
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Body Language, celebrities, Crisis Communications, Debate Central, Government & Politics, Great Lectures on November 30, 2010
You have to feel sorry for poor Mike Huckabee. No one ever seems to mention him anymore now that all political news is devoted to Sarah Palin 100% of the time. But Huckabee finally found a way to get a little bit of the spotlight back. He called for the execution of the WikiLeaks guy. Now that’s the way to muscle your sound bite into the story! Joe Scarborough to the GOP elite: It’s time we outed Palin for the fraud she is.
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Body Language, celebrities, CEOs/Financial, Crisis Communications, Government & Politics on November 30, 2010
Joe Scarborough has had enough. His column in Politico today is seething with contempt for Palin. She has dared to disparage St. Reagan and that is enough for Scarborough to demand excommunication. Palin has been able to spin criticisms from both party’s elites to her benefit in the past. Can she do it again? I’m betting she can. More at Politico.

Entire US is becoming addicted to Palin Family
Posted by TJ Walker in celebrities, Communications, Media, media relations, News, Politics, public relations on November 22, 2010
According to Nate Silver at the New York Times, Google searches for Sarah Palin and her family are greater than all the searches for President Obama and ALL of the other Republican candidates combined. Wow, it’s as if we have all become 13 year old girls and it’s 1973 and David Cassidy has shown up to our sleep over. The screaming and hysteria are overwhelming, but how long can it last? By 1975, Cassidy was unemployable and unwanted.

Palin Gets judge to order Gawker to remove pages of Palin’s new book from site
Posted by TJ Walker in Authors Corner, Communications, internet marketing, Media, News on November 21, 2010
I
’ll admit, it’s hard to feel sorry for Sarah Palin claiming she was “economically harmed” by a member of the mainstream or lamestream media, but it simply is not “fair use” for Gawker to run whole pages from Palin’s new book.
It’s fine to run quotes or even a few paragraphs, but not pages—that’s what “fair use’ law is all about. Something tells me Gawker would be too happy if I copied whole pages of their articles and used them as my own at www.tjwalker.com. If Gawker wants to run whole sections of pages, then it needs to buy serial rights form the book publisher. The irony, of course, is that the publicity from this dustup is going to result in even more book sales for Palin, making her even richer, thanks to publicity from Gawker. But Gawker benefits too because of all the publicity and new-found traffic it is receiving. Everybody wins.
