GP Rep Claims First Lady has a “Large Posterior”
Posted by TJ Walker in Uncategorized on December 22, 2011
Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner R Wisconsin is getting the biggest press coverage of his life. He’s on the front page of the Drudge Report, Huffington Post and, basically, everywhere else. Did he finally author earth-shattering legislation after 33 years in Congress? Nope. He said the First Lady has a “Large Posterior.”
A Democratic operative recently overheard Sensenbrenner on the telephone in an airport lounge saying the following:

Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Media Training on May 9, 2011

Rashard Mendenhall can say so long to his endorsement deal and hello countless Sunday afternoon’s of being booed by the fans of opposing teams and maybe even his own.
His crime? Mendenhall was terminated because of controversial tweets he made earlier this week about Osama Bin Laden.

Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Humor, Media, reputation management on February 13, 2011
Two of the keys to success for any media personality are being distinctive and memorable. Bill O’Reilly is both, which makes it very easy for Saturday Night Live to mock him. Watch below.

How Washington Information Brokers Ply Their Trade
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Government & Politics, Politics on January 18, 2011
The New York Times chronicles the lives of young Washington staffers who get up at 4:00 AM to gather and process news for their more influential bosses. Apparently, no one in DC has ever heard of an RSS feed. I don’t like people who just reflexively bash Washington and bureaucrats (disclosure, I used to live there and I did work on Capitol Hill for members of congress), but in this case, DC does seem to be behind the times.

When Did Radio announcers start to Sound Like Ted Williams?
Posted by TJ Walker in Audio, Communications, Media, Presentation Skills Training on January 9, 2011
Ted Williams, the homeless voice of God, has a great voice, but it’s not a natural voice. Slate takes an interesting look through the history of radio announcers and how their voices have evolved. Fun nugget: Don Pardo is 92 years old and still does the voiceover for Saturday Night Live from his home in Arizona.

Winklevoss Twins Want to Sue Facebook Again
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Media, reputation management, Social Media on December 31, 2010
$65 million isn’t enough! The Winklevoss Twins want to sue Facebook for even more money. They made a firm agreement to accept the $65 million a few years back and be on their way. But now they’ve changed their mind and want to cancel the agreement. Isn’t it a bit unseemly, even un-gentlemanly to break one’s word Misters Winklevoss? If this is all about honor, aren’t you behaving without honor?
These boys better how they never face a jury. Two incredibly rich, tall, good-looking guys who grew up in Greenwich and get to spend their time being medal-winning Olympic atheltes dont elicit much sympathy, even if they do have a good point or tow.
The Next Big Media Form After The Newspaper will Be…Nothing
Posted by TJ Walker in blogging, Communications, Media, News, publishing on December 31, 2010
Nothing in the sense of a distinct new format like an iPad ap. Instead, the focus is on content, audio video or text. People in the media business, myself included, have to focus on creating compelling content that people want, not on finding a new container.
Hugh Hefner Announces Engagement on Twitter and Continues to be Relevant

Regardless of what you think of Hugh Hefner’s subject matter, the 84 year old mogul continues to be the master of all media. True, if you are an investor in playboy, you haven’t done well in recent years.
Still, The Hef is constantly reinventing himself and embracing not only young women, but all forms of new media. Hefner (or someone who can read a keyboard) is an active Twitterer. Hef still has shows on basic cable and content on every single old and new media outlet. I don’t know how long Hef will live, but he’s now entering his 7th decade of captivating the public and living in the public eye.
Sound Bite of the Day – Joe Biden Says Gay Marriage Is “Inevitable”
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Government & Politics, media relations, Media Training, public relations, reputation management on December 26, 2010
Joe Biden’s quote that gay marriage is “inevitable” found its way into ever news organization in the world. Why? After all, it wasn’t a blunder or blooper.
The word “inevitable” is a good soundbite word becasue 1. It is an absolute. 2. It’s an implied attack on those who feel differently. 3. It’s emotional. 4. It’s short. 5. It’s clarifying. 6. It implies action.
Obama Retreats From the Public Eye During Vacation
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Media, media relations, public relations, reputation management on December 26, 2010
President Obama, like President Reagan, seems to be psychologically secure enough that he’s comfortable not being in the limelight all the time. Some Presidents feel that have to provide a photo-op 365 days a year. Obama seems to genuinely crave down time. It might take him out of a news cycle or two, but it should help his image long term if the relaxation keeps him rested and centered.

People who are fighting this should look around and find bigger battles. We live in a world with a gazillion programming and content options. A much bigger battle now is helping people who can’t afford Internet Access and helping those who do have it, but don’t know how to read.
