Boehner Takes on Skyrocketing Federal Salaries

According to a USA Today analysis the number of workers making more than $150,000 has doubled since January 2009 and incoming leader of the House of Representatives John Boehner is planning on doing something about it. As he plots his public course one of his stated top priorities is to bring down the salary of government officials. This will not win him much favor with federal government unions but those are not his constituents. Some people may also nitpick and say that this not get to the heart of dealing with larger issues but it is a symbolic gesture worth pure gold to an American public that is fed up with runaway spending and this could be a placating first step towards reigning in spending on a larger scale.
If Your Boss is a Jerk, Dare You Announce it on Facebook?

The 21st century megaphone of Facebook has cost a woman her job at a Conneticut Medical Supply Company. Was this warranted? I think so. There is no expectation of privacy on Facebook unless you do in fact set all the settings to private. What this woman did was the equivalent of going around the office cubicle to cubicle bad mouthing her boss. I do not know of many work environments in which that would be acceptable so it comes as no shock that she got fired.
What this woman is guilty of is a lack of common sense.

John Boehner—the Blubberer

John Boehner gave one of the weirdest and worst victory speeches I’ve ever seen last night. Unlike Marco Rubio and Rand Paul who gave great speeches, Boehner’s was just odd, and not just because of the crying.
In the beginning, Boehner was stumbling over words and giving nearly zero eye contact to his audience, as if he were a first-time candidate and not an 11-term incumbent career politician. Boehner was reading the boiler-plate speech as if it never would have occurred to him to say “cut taxes” or “give the government back to the people” without a script.
From Twitter: As Biden continues to talk half-hour beyond planned ending of rally, some of the crowd quietly streams out.

This can happen to anyone on Twitter. But the Vice President has a long history of being, well, long, when it comes to his speeches. So he should be especially mindful of length. I’m alway asked by my clients “TJ, how long should my speech be?” My answer is “as long as it takes to communicate messages that are important to you and your audience in an interesting and memorable way.” That might be 2 minutes or it might be 20 hours. However, when you are speaking on a platform with many other speakers and things are running way over schedule, you will do yourself and everyone else a huge service by shortening your allotted time to help get things back on schedule.
Decision Points by George W. Bush

High points for former president George Bush. I know we are not used to seeing that thought associated with him but in this case I have to compliment Bush for using new technology and social media to promote him new book Decision Points.
Now the bad news. He still has not learned a thing in the ten years since he ran for the presidency and leaving office. He is still stiff in front of the camera, squinting his eyes, reading too quickly, looking unnatural and obviously reading off of a teleprompter while staring right into the camera.
Can Newt Gingrich speak his way to the presidency?
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, celebrities, CEOs/Financial, Communications, Politics, Professional Speakers on October 29, 2010

Newt Gingrich is thinking about running for president of the United States. Lets get things straight right away, Newt Gingrich will never become president. You can read more about this story here but the main problem that someone like Gingrich has is that he has a long history of soundbite problems. These will come back to haunt him if he ever decides to run for any sort of elected office.
Gingrich is the Republican party’s version of Al Sharpton. Both have a base of supporters but have said so many extreme things that it will be hard to overcome. Keep in mind Gingrich is the same person who was having an affair at the same time that he was pushing for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. He will never be considered by the voters because of supreme character issues.
