Glenn Beck has really been taken to task over his remarks about Reform Judaism being similar to radicalized Islam and how both are ostensibly based on politics. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell devoted a huge segment on-air to parsing Beck’s apology and giving it a very poor grade.

Glenn Beck often foments against ideas written more than 40 years ago by Francis Fox Piven, a near 80-year old academic. And now Beck’s drooling fans are showering Piven with death threats.
Yes, Beck should have freedom of speech, but can’t he pick on someone his own size? People with a loud media megaphone need to use it judiciously or they can accidentally ruin a lot of lives.

Whether you love or hate Bill Maher, he makes a clear and compelling case that the Tucson killer and Glenn Beck have similar world views on a lot of subjects and that they are cut from the same cloth. I suspect Maher was saying what a lot of liberals were thinking but are too afraid to say for fear of being targeted as the next Rep. Gifford’s.

Joe Klein, you have a way with words! “Telecharlatan” is a beautiful word. I hope to hear a lot more of it. Suggestion to Klein, why not do another ‘Anonymous” style novel with a well-known Telecharlatan as the central character? I’m sure it would be a fun read.

Glenn Beck didn’t cotton to Barbara Bush saying she hoped Sarah Palin would “stay in Alaska” so he punished her by mocking her as the guy on the Quaker Oats box. It’s mean, vicious, and funny–typical Beck. Let this be a warning to other conservatives who step out of Palin Line. More at Mediaite

Crowd estimates for rallies in DC are such a contentious affair that the National Park Service (disclosure: a client of mine) wisely deiced to get out of the game years ago. But from a number of sources it appears that Stewart had more than twice the crowd of Glenn Beck? How significant is this?
Well Stewart had a whole network behind him, plus other shows (Colbert) and has numerous allies in the media. Beck had pretty much just himself, and will still able to get a huge crowd. When you factor in all variables, I call in a draw. More at Perez Hilton.
large Speaker Rally in Washington, DC for Democrats
Large rallies are big in DC this year. Glenn Beck got a huge crowd last month. The Democrats rallied today and soon will be Jon Steward. However, it should be noted, the ability to draw large crowds doesn’t correlate with winning elections. More here

Organizers of Glenn Beck’s rally slated for Saturday in Washington, D.C., say they expect to have as many as 300,000 people in attendance, according to the permits issued for the event last week.
