Dr. Laura to have new radio show on Sirius XM

So Dr. Laura is going to be off the air for a grand total of…three days. Her broadcast syndicated show ends December 31st and her new show begins January 3rd. This whole Dr. Laura thing is strange at many levels. On the one hand, I hate to defend Dr. Laura, because I think she is a neurotic, hate-filled crackpot, but she didn’t go on an N-word RANT on her show, as it has been described on the Huffington Post and numerous other news outlets. She did use the N-word in an intelligent and rational way, devoid of hatred. And it’s unusual for Dr. Laura to be talking to someone without sounding hateful.

On the other hand, everything Dr. Laura has said about this issue is patently a lie. She claims she left broadcast radio because she no longer has first amendment rights. Perhaps Christine O’Donnell could loan Dr. Laura a copy of the constitution and the bill of rights (since Christine won’t be needing them in Washington). No government official, or agency, has ever, to my knowledge, told Dr. Laura what to say or not say on the radio. No jack-booted thug has ever taken Dr. Laura off the airwaves. So it’s complete BS when she says it’s a first amendment issues. Now, she claims she is going to satellite radio to follow the footsteps of Howard Stern because she needs freedom from government oppression, just like Howard. Again, complete BS. Howard had numerous run-ins with the FCC and fines too. His move to satellite did make a lot of sense. Why is Dr. Laura BSing on this?

Sound bites from TJ Walker-Dr Laura, Steven Slater, Tim Horrigan, Rupert Murdoch

Dr. Laura has gotten some flack for using the N-word in an on-air conversation. She wasn’t suing the term disparagingly. She apologized quickly and thoroughly. I’m no Dr. Laura fan, but I don’t think this episode will hurt her.

Steven Slater, the angry flight attendant, is having his story questioned. Reporters can’t find any passengers who claim to have heard or seen the things Slater alleges. If his story doesn’t get some corroboration, he will quickly be seen as a flake, a joke and a disturbed person. He can then forget the endorsement deals and reality show.
