NJ Governor Chris Christie returns from Disney and lashes out at the media, voters and the political establishment. He comes across as petulant and not understanding what leadership is al about. While I have often praised Christie for his strong communication skills, they did not serve him well during this time of crisis. This time, his tough talk just made him look petty and mean. More analysis in the video below.

Henry Kissinger Plays Damage Control – Two Weeks Later
Posted by TJ Walker in Communications, Crisis Communications, Government & Politics, Media Training, public relations, reputation management on December 26, 2010
Henry Kissinger got in trouble a few weeks ago when tapes surfaced. He is heard on the 1973 tapes saying, “The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy. And if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern.”
Yikes!

It’s important to realize that although we live in a world where everyone is more open and where transparency and sharing are prized values, there is a downside. Employers also have rights. One of those rights is to give privacy to their clients and customers. Another is to use the freedom of speech to say “you are fired” to any employee caught breaking confidentiality rules.

This is the jerk who thought it would be cute to advocate killing three Federal Judges because he didn’t like their opinions. “Hal” is why bloggers and internet radio talk show hosts have a bad reputation.
Freedom of speech is not and has never been unlimited. You can’t advocate violence and death to people, especially government officials. Here’s hoping “Hal” gets a tough prison with no Internet connection allowed.

Celebration, Fla sees second death in 2 days
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Crisis Communications, public relations on December 3, 2010
This is the classic man-bites-dog story. The wholesome, crime-free Disney town that had no murders in its entire 14 year existence is not getting more national and international media coverage for its crime than many larger cities with hundreds of murders a year. The media do enjoy taking people, or places, down a notch or two. Celebration just seemed so damn wholesome; it somehow seems fair to some that their image is being taken down a notch or two. This reminds me of the negative stories that always accompany a politician who takes a vow of not accepting special interest money, only to find out that $1000 campaign contribution he got from his friendly neighbor was actually a registered lobbyist for a big oil company.
