Most people think that the traditional evening news broadcast is a dinosaur and in danger of being extinct. That might be the case, but when major news hits the big three networks are still where people turn to get their news and information.
Major news stories in Egypt and weather here in the US sent ratings for NBC, ABC and CBS soaring to high marks not reached in years.
NBC News with Brian Williams Wins 2010 Ratings War

Congratulations to NBC. Question: Who still watches the network evening broadcasts? I only see clips of interesting stories the next day online. Otherwise, every single story I see on a network newscast is something I’ve already learned about 6 to 8 hours earlier on the Internet.
Or it is a frivolous story that I don’t care about.

Somewhere in heaven Walter Cronkite might be laughing. Not laughing at Brian Williams but laughing with him. The “voice of God” for so many years never found himself trying to get laughs on late night talk shows but this is a new era and Williams knocked it out of the park last night on Jimmy Fallon.
If the news anchoring doesn’t stick Willams could have a second career in comedy.
What is the secret behind Rachel Ray’s Voice and Brian Williams Speech patterns?

The secret is that Rachel Ray has a terrible voice AND she doesn’t let it bother her. I was watching her show yesterday and I closed my eyes and just listened to her voice. It is scratchy, grating, and unpleasant to my ear. But so what? Rachel Ray makes tens of millions of dollars a year talking, i.e., using her voice, because she says stuff that is interesting to people. As a presentation coach I find that many people are insecure about their voices and waste time worrying about artificially lowering their voices and seeking out voice training. With all due respect to the many fine voice coaches in the world, I think this is a waste of time. If you have interesting things to say and you say it with passion, you too could be the next Rachel Ray, or, speaking of awful voices, Barbara Walters.
