Public Speaking Tip of the Day: You should give a speech without doing a video-recorded rehearsal and critique only if you are willing to dictate an important memo and send it to the world without spell-checking, editing or reviewing it. Both actions are equally as reckless.

Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, celebrities, Media, Sales and Marketing, Technology, Workplace on February 4, 2011

The game within the game on Sunday will be which Super Bowl commercial gets the most buzz and highest grades on Monday morning. Companies are always looking for an edge and when 3 million dollars is involved for the price of an ad you want all the advantages you can get.
What better way to gain an edge than by creating internet and social media buzz for your commercial by releasing it online first. The cloak and dagger idea of keeping everything under wraps and secret is over. We want our information now and we want it fast.
Two thirds of Internet Users willing to spend Money for Online content- Pew Poll
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Sales and Marketing, Technology on January 24, 2011
That’s the good news. The bad news is that very little of that money spent is for news and information. Most of the spending is for music and software. The average amount spent per month was $10.
What’s the message for online content creators? You’ve got to create something unique, like music, or something really useful, like software. Information alone isn’t enough to get people to open their wallets. More from NYTimes.com

The next time you laugh at the long lines of contestants waiting to audition for a reality show take a look at this story from TMZ. Snooki from MTV’s Jersey Shore is cashing in on her reality fame at the tune of $11,000 a day for an appearance at a tanning salon.
This speaks to the larger issue of fame and why so many people chase it on reality tv shows. If you can gain notoriety or infamy you can use it as a personal checkbook for many years after your show or appearance has gone off the air.

Interesting article by Matthew G. Devost on all the devices his iPhone has replaced. I’m can’t say that I’ve gone as far as he has in replacing 23 devices (I wasn’t using 23 devices) but the iPhone’s ability to capture high quality video and photos has allowed me to leave my flip at home as well as the digital Camera. I’m not ready for multi-media production anytime and that’s a huge plus.

The Public’s Message to CEOs and Politicians: “We demand the right to look like fools in the media too!”

I’m as guilty of the next commentator of fixating on politicians and business leaders when they say and do stupid things in the media. It’s important to realize and recognize that the public is equally capable of looking like complete jerks and fools too. Here is video from over-zealous shoppers on back Friday.
