Televised Reenactment of Michal Jackson’s Autopsy on Discovery Network is Canceled

It wasn’t canceled out of good taste, but for legal reasons. Before we get al high and mighty about how tasteless the execs were at Discovery for scheduling this we have to ask ourselves, who would watch this?

Network execs must have assumed more than one million people would want to watch this, and there were probably right. Yuck!

Momentum Is Gaining In the Senate for Filibuster Reform

The Democrats in the Senate are advancing their plans to change filibuster rules in the new Congress. Regardless of your politics, this is GREAT news if you are a lover of speeches.

If the filibuster rules go back to their old style, that will mean Senators will have to speak for hour after hour if they want to prevent a vote from happening on a bill. Sure, some speeches will be boring (Sen. Strom Thurmond resorted to reading the phone book when he filibustered for 24 hours against desegregation in the 1950s). But some of the speeches Will be fascinating, especially when a Senator is tired and has run out of prepared text–then we’ll really hear some fun stuff!

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie to Take on Birthers

Abercrombie wants to release even more documents proving Obama was born in Hawaii, since the birth certificates and numerous newspaper announcements at the time haven’t persuaded more than 40% of the American people.

Abercrombie seems like a smart and ambitions fellow. Perhaps next he can persuade people that the moon landing wasn’t a hoax, that there was a holocaust, and that the moon is not, I fact, made of green cheese.

Man Calls 911 and Asks for the Media to Be Arrested

This is a funny story out of, you guessed it, Florida. Prediction, this guy can hire the same publicist, agent, manager, and speaker bureau of “Joe the Plumber.” If the 911 guys plays it right, he could get a talk radio show out of this and end up as….Sarah Palin’s running mate?

Gawker headline: Who Will Save New Jersey While Chris Christie Eats Mickey Mouse?

I was the first one to predict that Christie would get “snowed under’ with criticism for his decision to fly off to Disney World on Sunday when the storm was on the way to his state of New Jersey. Now the snow is turning into an avalanche of attacks on the governor’s political judgement. Should have listened Governor.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Are The Most Admired Man and Woman In America – USA Today

Polls like this are meaningless. All they do is measure name ID. If you like Obama and Clinton don’t get too excited; Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are on the list too, with Palin actually coming in 2nd place.

GOP Elites Start to Take Aim at Sarah Palin

The Wall Street Journal came out attacking Sarah Palin’s critique of Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity campaign. Anytime the Wall Street Journal seems to be defending a Democratic President or First lady there needs to be further analysis of the tea leaves. The Wall Street Journal all but called Palin a fool and an imbecile for attacking Michelle Obama on the obesity issue.

Here’s what’s really going on. The GO elite at the Wall Street Journal, like the GOP elite everywhere, are getting very nervous that Palin will win the nomination and lead the party to a Georg McGovern-style landslide loss. So the elites are starting to attack her now to weaken her chances of getting the nomination.

AP Slams New York Times For Claiming Scoop on BP Story

The Associated press is steaming mad at the New York Times for claiming to have broken a big story on the Deepwater horizon story. It turns out that all of the “exclusive” news in the Times’ story appeared in AP stories awhile back. The dirty little secret of journalism is that terms like “exclusive” and “first” and “news breaking” are thrown about quite promiscuously by the media.

My favorite is when a politician who does 10 TV interviews a day is seen on a cable news show and the graphic says “exclusive.” Well, obviously that interview is exclusive to that media outlet at that moment because it’s not a live feed at a press conference. But if the politician is saying the same thing he said on 10 other interviews that day, it’s not very exclusive.

Sound bite of the Day “We’ve become a nation of wusses” Ed Rendell

This sound bite is continuing to get good play. Here is more of what the Pennsylvania Governor said:
“We’ve become a nation of wusses…China…is kicking our butt in everything…Chinese residents would have marched to the stadium…and done calculus all the way down!”

That is funny! It’s forceful, absolute, not whishy washy and is sure to endear Rendell to NFL fans who were surely disappointed about the big game being canceled due to snow.
Potential downside to Rendell politically: Family members of anyone who was killed on the highways during the blizzard are sure to be sore at Rendell for a long time.

Pat Buchanan predicts Sarah Palin will have pole position in 2012

As someone who has been an active participant or observer of every Republican Party nomination process since 1968, Pat Buchanan is not someone whose views can be dismissed on this issue. Buchanan feels that Palin’s communication skills, attractiveness and money will make her the one to beat in going into the primaries. I agree. Watch Pat on the McLaughlin group.

NBA Coach Phil Jackson On Christmas Games: “It’s Like Christian Holidays Don’t Mean Anything To Them Anymore.”

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson comments about playing on Christmas and how Christian holidays don’t mean anything to the NBA need to be looked at through the prism of the source. Jackson is someone who is known for his measured comments and rarely ever says anything that is not premeditated.

These comments are not an off the cuff remark by a player who is complaining about having to “work” on Christmas. They are being made by the most respect coach in the sport, the son of a minister and by someone who is a thoughtful thinker with many interests away from the basketball court.

Pat Buchanan Slams Gays Better than any Other Conservative Pundit!

I love Pat Buchanan. There I said it. He’s consistently the most honest, most intellectually forceful, and occasionally, the funniest conservative pundit in the business. (I don’t actually share his views on anything, but that is irrelevant and beside the point) Here is a sample of his rhetoric from the McLaughlin Group this past weekend:

“You are trying to impose the values of Fire Island on Parris Island. These are 19-year-old Marines, they’re very macho guys. Many of them are Christian traditionalists and you’ve got these secular values and you bring open homosexuals into the barracks with these guys, it’ll be hellish. One Marine commandant said very simply, ‘Would moving homosexuals into the barracks with my Marines enhance the fighting effectiveness, the cohesion and morale of our Marine units? I don’t believe it would.’ Why change something that is working. The Marine Corps is the finest unit in the world, or one of them, and it works. Why impose outside values on them? . . .”
