New Bain Attack Ad Against Mitt Romney to Air in Florida
NEW YORK CITY-AmericanLP, a Democratic Super PAC, just released a new 60 second TV ad attacking Mitt Romney for his role in Bain Capital. The ”Romney/Bain” TV ad vividly tells the story of how Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital took over 5 separate companies, (including the Florida based Dade Behring company) plunged them into debt, pulled out half a billion dollars of profits and fees, then pushed the companies into bankruptcy and then finally purged hundreds or thousands of workers for each company.
TJ Walker, AmericanLP founder, explains the ad:
“Bain Capital has been discussed ever since Mitt Romney first entered politics in 1994. Our belief is that because Bain Capital has done so many nefarious things in a complex manner, most voters have been left confused by Romney’s Bain connection. What we are doing in this ad is carefully explaining the 4 steps Romney’s Bain took in making money.
Step 1. Plunging a company into massive debt.
Step 2. Pulling out massive fees.
Step 3. Pushing a company into bankruptcy.
Step 4. Purging the company of hundreds or even thousands of workers.
We believe that when most American votes see the stark reality of what Romney’s Bain Capital did, most voters will be sickened and repulsed by Romney and Bain. Even voters who consider themselves very conservative and militantly pro-capitalistic will find Romney’s business model to be corrupt at the core.
Romney is basing his entire presidential claim on his ability to “create jobs” and his record at Bain Capital. He’s not running on his record as Governor of Massachusetts. So if we can get voters to view Romney’s Bain record in exclusively negative terms, then Romney’s rationale for running for President is completely destroyed.“
Walker also explained more details in the ad:
“Some of the companies cited in this ad went bankrupt after Mitt Romney was no longer CEO. Some of the companies fired their workers after they were no longer controlled by Bain. It is our contention that since Romney was a co-founder of Bain and that he hired most key personnel, many of whom are still there, and that he remains a financial beneficiary/investor of Bain, then he deserves his share of blame for Bain business deals that went bad. After all, Romney claims credit for employees hired by Staples and Sports Authority, long after those companies were completely independent of Romney/Bain. So we believe it is fair and just to similarly hold him accountable for companies Bain was involved with that ended poorly for workers. Further, we believe that any journalist or observer who attacks our ad as factually erroneous or misleading is, in fact, acting as a Romney apologist and a GOP hack. Any such critic is perpetuating a misleading political environment whereby voters are deceived into thinking Romney simply created jobs and didn’t play a role in corporate and job destruction.”
