After two decades as a sportswriter you would have thought that Mike Wise understood the meaning of maintaining your credibility. Turns out not even the most seasoned and respected reporters can navigate the world of social media and Twitter without stepping on a landmine.
This wound was self inflicted by Wise who now faces a month suspension from the Washington Post for putting up fake Twitter posts. Moving forward Wise will certainly be on his most professional behavior but the damage has been done to his reputation. Moving forward reporters must realize that Twitter should and can be used to reach your audience immediately but when toyed with you are playing with your reputation.
