Is Andy Griffith a good Spokesperson for the Democrats?
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Communications, Public Speaking Skills on July 31, 2010
Absolutely! He has a law and order, traditional values image based on his Mayberry days and he has an excellent personal reputation. In fact, the Democrats from my home state of North Carolina tried to recruit Griffith for years to run against Jess Helms. By the way, if you want to know all you need to know about the modern rise of the Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly crowd, then check out Griffith’s 1957 masterpiece “a Face in the Crowd,” one of my all-time favorite movies.
Has Al Gore dodged his crisis?
Posted by TJ Walker in Analysis, Crisis Communications, Politics on July 31, 2010
The Oregon police looking into the allegations that Al Gore groped a massage therapist have decided to drop the case because of a “lack of evidence.” The woman isn’t talking any more. Even the National Inquirer is being tight-lipped (they broke the story). Gore’s spokesperson put out a statement re-affirming innocence and applauding the police’s conclusion. While I was initially critical of Gore’s silence on this matter when it broke, it now looks like the matter will soon be forgotten and Gore’s reputation will remain intact. Gore’s brand as a speaker and spokesperson will suffer no long-term damage from the incident, though his enemies will forever think of him as the “sex-crazed poodle.”
